Cottage Description
Our cottage was built in 1999 and is located on the east end of Stoney Lake in South Bay. It can be accessed via paved roads to within a kilometer of the cottage. The property is quite private because between us and the neighbour to the south is an unused, treed lot which keeps their cottage pretty much out of sight. The neighbouring cottage to the north is farther back from the lake than ours so it is quite private. Click here for directions to Stoney Lake Vista.

This beautiful cottage is within ten feet of the water giving a stunning panoramic view of Stoney Lake. It has floor to ceiling windows (most windows are casement) allowing for wonderful summer breezes and spectacular lake views. There are also four ceiling fans to enhance circulation and loft windows that are open most of the summer. A floor to ceiling stone fireplace compliments this grand chalet for those cozy evenings indoors. The cottage is wrapped with lots of decking for lazy afternoons. As well, it has a private dock that extends out 24' for casting a line. For the kids there is a small sandy swimming area with a gentle sloping bottom. While there is some sand, the bottom, further out, is muddy and the bay does get weed growth. There is an island out from the cottage that has deeper water for diving and very few weeds and makes a fine swimming place. Previous renters who swam and water-skied from the island have been very pleased. There is also an excellent, public sand beach within 10 minutes by boat or car.

The cottage measures 24 x 34 with two 9 x 12 bedrooms and a four-piece bath with a claw foot tub and shower. The kitchen, dining and living room comprise of one open area that surrounds a granite fireplace (with propane insert that looks and feels like a real wood fire). The cottage has two bedrooms with large windows and two very comfortable queen beds. Sleeping accommodation is best suited for four people with a queen bed in each bedroom. Additional sleeping space is possible on two couches in the living room. The down side of sleeping in the living room is that it faces east and can be quite bright in the a.m. with no drapes. The cottage offers all of the luxuries of home including a fridge, stove, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, cutlery, pillows, blankets, VCR and Satellite TV. There is also a laundry room in the garage with a washing machine and an apartment sized dryer, if you are so inclined. Outside will find a gas bbq, patio table with chairs and a screened in firepit for evenings and stories around the fire. Renters so far have felt that the cottage is quite roomy and nicely decorated. Renters may have the use of the paddleboat. An aluminum boat with motor is also available that can be rented weekly or for weekends (please inquire).

The water supply is from the lake. We have installed a filter and ultra-violet purifier, which does give drinkable water. Nonetheless, we recommend you bring your own water for drinking and cooking. During the winter we revert to a well, which does not provide great water. The well water in the winter and lack of weed free swimming are about the only negatives on this cottage.

Please note that we do not allow smoking in the cottage.

If you want to bring a pet, you must discuss this with us prior to booking (we do spell out our requirements for pets in our contract). Since we are noticing that wear and tear and cleaning time due to pets can be as significant as for additional people, we will determine whether to charge extra by counting a pet as one person.

There are no telephones at the cottages and marginal cell phone coverage.

There is a small convenience store within 3 km and more complete shopping is available in Lakefield, which is about 25 km.
